A farmhouse ale with foraged larch tips aged in gin casks

Montgomery flows from neutral casks from @copperworksdistilling and steeped with Western Larch tips earlier this spring. The Western Larch is a deciduous acting conifer and this time of year, their needles change golden and drop. You may have heard Northwest natives refer to “Larch Madness,” when these faux-conifers’ needles turn bright yellow, dotting the mountains like bright golden flames early each spring. It’s truly a sight to behold, but we were blown away by the pronounced citrus character of the young tips when they’re still a vivid green.

The terpenes present in these tips impart a fantastic bouquet of flavors — tart lemon, sweet basil and tangy sorrel all seamlessly mesh with the gin notes from the Copperworks casks. Everything you love about the smell of fir tips without the PINE-SOL®.

Montgomery captures what we love most about saison and farmhouse ales: bright, yet soft flavors that are balanced enough to be extremely drinkable. Sometimes an ingredient or a specific type of spirit cask is a natural complement to our mixed culture, and this is a near pitch perfect example of that.
