Hanami – oak-aged ale with sakura sencha tea

Hanami is our oak-aged ale with Sakura Sencha tea conditioned on Meadowfoam honey. Hanami marries a blend of oak-aged beers with beautifully delicate Japanese Sencha green tea infused with cherry blossoms.

The concept originated from tasting through some incredible teas from Miro Tea here in Ballard. The fresh floral character and subtle fruitiness of their Sakura Sencha blend in particular captured our imagination. Hanami brings out the best in each ingredient, creating a combination that we could only arrive at through exploration and a continual mindset of curiosity.

Balanced notes of honeycomb, spring blossoms, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, and hints of tart stone fruit lead to a wonderfully rounded finish. We are extremely pleased with this beer, and thankful to our friends at Miro for providing such fantastic teas to work with.

 

Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers and is an annual celebration of Sakura and springtime. People gather around cherry blossom trees with family and friends to enjoy delicious drinks and food under the beautiful pink trees, often with the petals gently snowing from the branches when in full bloom
